On the occasion of her film ‘Highway’ completing five years since its release on Thursday, Alia Bhatt tweeted, “The film and its memories remain close to my heart! Thanks for giving ‘Veera’ all your love!” Randeep Hooda, who played ‘Mahabir’, tweeted, “‘Mahabir’ was a special character to play, to live, in an incredibly important story to be a part of!”
She may have begun her film career with a glossy and highly-stylized Karan Johar-directed Student of The Year (2012) but Alia Bhatt stunned one and all by choosing Imtiaz Ali’s Highway (2014) for her second cinematic outing. In the road drama, that co-starred Randeep Hooda, the petite actress took everyone by surprise with her brooding performance. She played Delhi-based Veera Tripathi, who has a disturbing past and is searching for peace and freedom.
Today marks the five years of Highway. Alia took to Twitter to remember the film and shared some stills from it. She wrote alongside, “It’s #5YearsOfHighway today. The film & its memories remain close to my heart! Thank you for giving Veera all your love! And let’s welcome @WeAreWSF on their digital journey!”
Her co-star Randeep, too, celebrated #5YearsofHighway on the micro-blogging website. Sharing a still of his character Mahabir, the actor wrote, “Mahabir was a special character to play, to live, in an incredibly important story to be a part of! Celebrating #5YearsOfHighway by welcoming @WeAreWSF on their digital journey!”
Highway, the film that Imtiaz calls his best work, received praise from all the quarters upon its release. However, with limited screens in hand, the film was an average performer at the box-office. Its music, composed by AR Rahman, became highly popular though. Five years on, songs Patakha Guddi, Maahi Ve and Sooha Saaha are very much a part of the playlists.
Highway was jointly produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Imtiaz Ali under their film production banners of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Window Seat Films.
