Cricketer Rohit Sharma took to social media to reveal that Kenya’s Ol Pejeta Conservancy has named an 11-month-old female black rhino in honour of his two-month-old daughter Samaira. “This made us so emotional! Rohit Sharma & his commitment towards protecting rhinos isn’t something that is new to the fans. The Indian opener has vouched to contribute his level best to protect the endangered animal. He is actively associated with WWF India & also created a lot of awareness about the last Northern White Africa male rhino, Sudan, who is no more.

Recognizing his contributions, a little female black rhino calf has been named after Rohit’s daughter, ‘Samaira Sharma’. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which is a not-for-profit wildlife conservancy in Central Kenya’s Laikipia County has taken the decision. The cricketer got quite emotional with this gesture & shared his happiness on Twitter.

Rohit will be leading the Mumbai Indians as a part of his next assignment. The side didn’t qualify for the playoffs in the last season after having a disastrous start. He will be eyeing at some early wins this time around so that the team is not subjected to any pressure in the later stages of the tournament. The Mumbai franchise will begin its campaign with the game against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede on 24th March 2019.
