Former Bigg Boss contestant and actor Ajaz Khan was arrested in Mumbai on Thursday for uploading a TikTok video with objectionable content promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion. “The video created hatred among public at large,” police said. A case has been registered against him and further investigation is on by the Cyber Crime Police Station, Mumbai.
Actor Ajaz Khan, who is best known for being a contestant on the seventh season of the television reality show Bigg Boss, was arrested by the Mumbai Police on 18 July for uploading a TikTok video with objectionable content. The actor has been remanded in police custody till 20 July.
According to a report by The Hindu, a Shiv Sena worker had submitted a written complaint regarding two videos that Khan had uploaded on 9 July. In the first, Ajaz Khan was allegedly seen talking about the lynching of Tabrez Ansari from Jharkhand and insulting certain political leaders. In the other, he was allegedly seen mocking the police for registering an FIR against five Tik Tok users who made a similar video.
The actor was charged with promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion under Section 34 of the IPC and Section 67 of the IT Act. The cybercrime branch of the Mumbai police is conducting further investigation into the matter. Khan was also arrested last year by the Anti-Narcotics Cell from a hotel for possession of drugs and was later granted bail for the same.
